Wood statuette, \'Rice Goddess\'

Sri, the beloved rice goddess of Bali, holds a single lotus bloom as a symbol of her holiness. She is said to be the consort of Lord Vishnu, the Hindu God of Sustenance, and in Bali has been bestowed the responsibility of rice goddess in order to ensure an abundant harvest. Alongside almost every rice field on the island can be found a shrine to her with her sacred image. Carved from crocodile wood and hand-painted in oils by the talented Nyoman Sedayatana, this statuette makes a prosperous addition to any setting.
